Are you currently doing research in addition to teaching?
No, I’m not doing any research. I”m involved in other things such as the Eden Prairie School Board.
What led you to pursue teaching?
A friend of mine from the industry went into teaching and encouraged me for a number of years to do the same. So, I ended up spending some time with him in his classes and got interested in it. I eventually got to a point in my career where I asked myself what I really wanted to be doing. I realized that I liked helping people learn and teaching would be a good fit for me at this point in my life.
What has been your favorite teaching moment?
I just really enjoy it when students come to understand a concept. You can see it in their faces, it’s a sort of aha moment.
When you were younger, what did you envision as your future profession?
I started out in Political Science, but that lasted only one quarter. I didn’t have a great vision for my future and sort of backed into accounting. I thought I would go to law school and become an attorney. After I got out of law school and spent a few years in corporations doing some legal work and accounting, I realized that I liked the accounting side more.
Do you have any hobbies?
I like to keep active, so I cross-country ski and ride bike in the summer. I also like to read and spend time with my kids.
Do you have any family, friends, or pets that you share your home with?
I have a daughter who’s living at home and going to school. We also have two pets, a cat and a goldfish.
